Good to have genius like Tendulkar in team: Dhoni

Dhoni was asked to react on former BCCI secretary J Y Lele's book, in which he wrote that Tendulkar could not prove himself as a successful captain as he paid heed to too many advices.
"I have not played under his (Sachin's) captaincy. It's always good to have him in the side; he is a genius and comes up with his own ideas. It's good to have him on the field as he is a class batsman," Dhoni said at an Army function, where he was bestowed the honorary rank of Lt Colonel in Territorial Army.
Lele wrote in his book that, "Sachin could not exactly prove himself as a successful captain, though as a player he is a legend, the greatest. His biggest problem was that he used to listen to too many people. Basically a very soft, rather shy, cultured gentleman, Sachin formed the habit of respecting elders," he stated.
"He thought it was his duty to implement what they suggested. While doing so, he sometimes did not apply his mind. In deserving cases, it proved advantageous, in others, otherwise," Lele added.
Asked about upcoming West Indies [ Images ] series at home, Dhoni said, "We have got full batting strength and good bowlers in our side, so hopefully we do well in the series."

Non Stop Cricket= ODI+T20+IPL+CLT20+TEST

The First Test between India and Australia is scheduled, as usual, on Boxing Day, December 26, 2011 at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) when India starts a four Test series there.
Prior to that, India play a 2-day game on 15-16 December against Cricket Australia Chairman's XI at Manuka Oval at Canberra and a 3- day Match against Chairman's XI at the same venue.
This is a slight improvement over their previous tour to England but it is nowhere near playing a full- fledged Sheffield Shield side.
Having lost its Number 1 position, India is currently placed 3rd, behind England and South Africa, but ahead of Australia at 4th. Lack of preparation coupled with an air of casualness seemed to have brought the downfall. If India loses the series here they are in danger of sliding down further and further.
How are the teams preparing for the most important series in 2011 and 2012?
Have a look.
India's last ODI match against England is on 25 October, 2011 and a T20 match on 29th October 2011 at Kolkota. India has been busy with clutch of ODI and CLT-20's.
Australia will play a 2-Test series in South Africa from 9-13, and 17-21, November 2011. After coming home, they have a two Test series against New Zealand from 1st to 5 December 2011 at Brisbane and 9th to 13 at Hobart.
After having played Test matches in November and first half of December Aussies are Test match - ready, rearing to play Boxing Day Test at MCG!
On the other hand, India having played their last Test match against England in August 18-22, 2011, a good three months back, come to the Boxing Day match with an overdose of ODI and T-20!
Rahul Dravid and V.V.S. Laxman who have not played any form of cricket will be returning to Test match in December. Whether injuries to Sachin Tendulkar, Virendra Sehwag and Gautham Ghambhir would have completely healed and are 'Test- match fit' remains to be seen.
In the 60's and 70's , James Last, a German Composer released an Album called 'Non-Stop Dancing', a brief recording of popular songs all tied together by dance beats and crowd noises. It became a big hit and he became an international star. He made 190 such Albums.
Dhoni and Raina have been playing 'Non-Stop Cricket' (NSC= Test Match+ODI+T20+IPL+CLT20+CT ) all through the year and whether their bodies and spirit have time to adjust themselves to play any more cricket effectively remains to be seen! At the rate they are going, Cricket Administrators please note, there is a good chance they may beat James Last!
Where do they have time and to address themselves to 'chin music' or defects in techniques which invariably creeps in over a period of time? Have anybody thought of that, Chairman of Selectors, Technical Committee Chairman, BCCI President including?
With regard to bowlers, India was mortally crippled in England when Zaheer Khan walked on the first day of first Test, never to return in the whole tour.
India will face even bigger a humiliation in Australia if they gamble on Zaheer's fitness once again. One major concern will be the drop in speed of most of India's fast bowlers.
Javagal Srintah remains the fastest bowlers ever from India at 156 kmph which he clocked in 1999 tour of South Africa.
All the bowlers who started off around 145 kmph somehow have lost their pace in a very short time the most worrisome being young Ishant Sharma who is losing his pace and form at an alarming rate.
Sreeshanth, minus temper tantrums is the best bowler of the remaining, but there is no guarantee when he will flare up; R.P Singh who came to England as a tourist replacement to Zaheer was a total misfit having not played competitive cricket for over a year.
Munaf Patel though accurate often looks predictable. Praveen Kumar can swing the ball both ways early though lacking in pace.
Aaron perhaps is the fastest among current bowlers but it may be unwise to straight away throw him into the Boxing Day arena.
For the first time in many years India's spin played second fiddle to England's in summer. Harbhajan Singh looked very ordinary and listless compared to Swann.
Bowling, pace or spin will remain a worry.
In Fielding Australia will raise their bar and India's fielding will be put to severe Test again.
If Australia seizes the initiative, catching up is not easy as we saw in England.
This Tour will be the last for the Fab Four and whether they can make it count, remains to be seen.
With not a perfect preparation for a hard and grinding tour, injuries to key players both in batting and bowling staring at the face, how the team fares against Australia will be anybody's guess.
But miracles do happen in cricket... That remains India's fondest of hopes.

I have Sachin's picture on my wall: Afridi

Just a day after claiming that he saw Sachin Tendulkar's legs trembling while facing Shoaib Akhtar, Pakistan's former captain Shahid Afridi has now stated that he did not intend to question the Indian batting icon's greatness and was only talking about one incident. "I am not denying what I have said. I have seen that Tendulkar was not at all comfortable against Shoaib in Kolkata Test in 1999. It was Shoaib's first tour of India and he bowled out Sachin without giving him a chance to open his account. He also claimed (Rahul) Dravid's wicket in both the innings," Afridi told 'PTI-Bhasha' from Karachi.
"Shoaib was in full form on that tour and had tremendous speed. He terrorised almost all the batsmen in the world at that time. I have seen Sachin trembling as I was fielding at square leg. I am still saying that.
"But this was only one incident. He never spared Shoaib after that. We all have seen what happened in 2003 World Cup," he added.
Afridi went on to state that the Indian batsman does not need his certificate.
"Sachin is one of the best batsmen and the whole world knows this. He does not need mine or anybody else's certificate. His records speak for him," Afridi said.
The controversy-prone former captain yesterday backed his Akhtar's claim that Tendulkar was uncomfortable against his pace, saying that he had once witnessed the Indian batsman "trembling" while facing the pacer.
Afridi, who retired after revolting against his own board and has a history of making controversial remarks, said Tendulkar was uneasy against Akhtar, a claim which the pacer made in his recently-launched autobiography Controversially Yours.
Afridi said his remarks should not be construed as demeaning to Tendulkar.
"I am not raising any question on Sachin's greatness. Everyone knows that how many sixes Sachin has smashed on Shoaib's bowling after that. But sometimes it happens. I got out on a duck against a weak opponent like Zimbabwe in Peshawar when I was at the peak of my career," he said.
"Any batsman can go through this on a good wicket and opposite a good bowler. That was Shoaib's day and Sachin was nervous that day. Media should not read much into it as it can happen to Don Bradman as well," added the all-rounder.
Afridi said he is a huge fan of Tendulkar both on and off the field.
"I am a huge fan of Sachin. He is not only a great cricketer but a humble human being as well. I have only one photograph on the wall of my drawing room and that is of Sachin. It has Sachin's autograph on it, do I need to say more," said Afridi.
When asked if he will talk to Tendulkar to clarify his position on this issue, he said that there is no need for it.
"The whole matter is blown out of proportion by Indian media. Sachin is a great cricketer and he will understand what I am saying. I have not said anything wrong," he said.
"Media should play a positive role to reduce tension between the two neighbours. When we went to play the World Cup in India earlier this year, We saw all the negative reporting against Pakistani team. Indians love and respect us but not their media," he said.
On the possibility of his comeback in international Cricket, he said that he wants to play for another two-three years.
"Inshah Allah, I will be back in national team. I think I can play for 2-3 years. I am not going to beg for it but I know that I will represent Pakistan again," said Afridi.

“The results are based on the level of trust every individual has in all these brands,” TRA Chief Executive Officer N Chandramouli told reporters here.
Though Chandramouli did not divulge the project cost of the research, he said the report was priced over Rs 4,000, as it was the only way to generate revenues.

Bandra boy Sachin Tendulkar moves into his dream home

MUMBAI: After years of search for an ideal bungalow, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar finally moved into his new abode situated at the junction of Perry Cross Road and Turner Road (near Otters Club) in the Mumbai suburb of Bandra on Wednesday afternoon.

In Pics

A delighted and beaming Tendulkar made the grihapravesh along with his mother and family. The Tendulkars, over the last many years, had been staying at their 10th floor residence at La Mer building, also in Bandra. But while the earlier home was a duplex of over 2,000 sq ft, the new mansion rises up to three-storey and is spread across 6,000 sq ft. It took over three years for the batting maestro to build it.

It wasn't long ago that Tendulkar, while answering a query as to why he had not chosen to stay in a house of his own, had quipped, "Show me one good place with a clean deal." The cricket god was soon granted his wish when he chose an old Dorab Villa, which he bought for Rs 39 crore and later demolished to construct the new house which hasn't been christened as yet.

When the construction began, Tendulkar had personally sent a signed note to each neighbour expressing regret for the calm of the locality being disturbed. On Wednesday, there was a banner put up welcoming him and his family to their new neighborhood.

The move to the new place was supposed to be a quiet affair but a crowd was already in place much before the maestro could drive in with his family. A gracious Tendulkar thanked all for their good wishes and distributed sweets to children on the occasion. "I am really thrilled and happy today, especially for my mother and my family members," he said, adding, "Everyone has a dream of owning a house. I, too, had this dream. I am happy that I was able to fulfill it."

He clarified that the flat allotted to him under the sports quota (also in Bandra but not the one at La Mer) had been returned to the government so that some other worthy sportsperson could get it.

Two years ago, on the eve of Sachin's completion of 20 years in international cricket, his wife Anjali had described how the new home would be in an interview to TOI. "It will be a normal house. Given the space constraints in Mumbai, we are lucky to be having not a mansion but a nice home which will have all the requirements that Sachin had wanted. If he wants to go and play cricket with Arjun, there is a garden, not a big one but there is one. There is a parking area for our cars down, room for Sachin's mother and the kids."

On the choice of the interiors, Anjali had said, "A lot of things in the house are what Sachin wanted. But we are in it together. Also, I'm the more scientific type, more practical. I'm only bothered about where are the switches going to be placed in the house, where are the TV connections are going to be, how is the kitchen and bathroom layout going to be. He's into the fancy and decorative side of it."

The dream house is absolutely classy, and does seem to have fulfilled all the desires of the Tendulkars. High-fenced with electronic surveillance, it also has two basement levels with servant quarters and parking for several cars. The topmost floor has a lap swimming pool and a gymnasium.

Sachin, who spent his childhood at Sahitya Sahawas Colony (meant for achievers in the field of arts and literature) situated in Bandra East, has all along been a Bandra boy and wanted to own a bungalow in the same suburb.

Sachin, Ganguly praise Rahul Dravid

Indian cricket greats, including star batsman Sachin Tendulkar, have richly praised Rahul Dravid as he prepares to play the final one-day game of his illustrious career.

Tendulkar called Dravid the "unsung hero of the Indian team" and said his value was reflected by the sheer amount of runs he has scored.

The 38-year-old Dravid, who has amassed 10,820 runs in 343 one-dayers, will play his last game on Friday in Cardiff against England. He announced his retirement before the start of the series after having been overlooked for limited-overs games for most of the past two years.

Former captains Sourav Ganguly and Anil Kumble also praised Dravid's contribution in one-dayers.

"He has had a fabulous career as a one-day player and has contributed so much to Indian cricket," Tendulkar told a national daily on Friday. "I have no doubt that he is and will continue to be a role model for all of us."

Tendulkar said Dravid's natural game was not suited for the quick scoring of one-dayers, but had worked hard to improve and excelled in his "finishing role."

"He may not give you a quick start, but he will surely make his innings count in terms of time spent at the crease. You need such players in the team, and he was the best man for the job," he added.

Tendulkar also praised Dravid for adjusting according to the team's needs and helping the team gain depth in batting by agreeing to keep wickets.

"He is the perfect team man; when he was asked to keep wickets we all knew that he will do well because he was initially a wicketkeeper. It later helped him, and came as a big help to all of us in the Indian team during the 2003 World Cup."

Ganguly said Indian cricket should be "thankful to Rahul" for being flexible.

"Rahul has a had a checkered one-day career and it took a new turn once he decided to keep wickets in 2002," Ganguly wrote in his column in Hindustan Times. "His decision was absolutely for the team as it helped reorganize the middle-order and add more depth to it."

Kumble, who was Dravid's senior while playing for Karnataka in domestic cricket, called him an "exceptional team player" who was unfazed by criticism.

"I consider it a privilege to have played alongside him through most of my career," he wrote in Hindustan Times. "His contribution as a team player and mentor can't be quantified, and that will certainly be missed going forward."

Dravid, who played his solitary Twenty20 international during the ongoing tour of England, will continue to play in test cricket.

He has scored 12,775 runs in tests, which is the second highest aggregate in history behind Tendulkar (14,965). He has slammed 35 centuries and is fourth on the list of century-makers behind Tendulkar (51), South African allrounder Jacques Kallis (40) and former Australia captain Ricky Ponting (39).

Dhoni named captain of ICC ODI team.

The ICC on Monday announced its ODI Team of the Year, as chosen by a specially appointed selection panel chaired by West Indian batting legend and former captain Clive Lloyd.
The announcement was made at a special function ahead of the LG ICC Awards ceremony which is being held this evening at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London. Presented in association with FICA, the LG ICC Awards recognise the best international players and officials of the past 12 months.

Six countries have been represented in the 12-man line-up and just one player -Mahendra Singh Dhoni of India - four years in a row. The ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 winning captain keeps wicket and leads the side and is joined by fellow ICC ODI Team of the Year 2009 members AB de Villiers of South Africa and Shane Watson of Australia.

ICC ODI Team of the Year (in batting order)
Tillakaratne Dilshan (SL)
Virender Sehwag (Ind)
Kumar Sangakkara (SL)
AB de Villiers (SA)
Shane Watson (Aus)
Yuvraj Singh (Ind)
MS Dhoni (Ind, wicketkeeper/captain)
Graeme Swann (Eng)
Umar Gul (Pak)
Dale Steyn (SA)
Zaheer Khan (Ind)
12th Man - Lasith Malinga (SL)

There are four Indians in the side, all of whom were involved in India's ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 victory over Sri Lanka in Mumbai in April of the year.
Meanwhile Sri Lanka's Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kumar Sangakkara and Lasith Malinga, who were all part of the side that lost out to Dhoni's men in the final on 2 April 2011 at Wankhede Stadium, are selected for the team too.

Chairman of the LG ICC Awards selection panel, Lloyd said: "This has been an outstanding year for 50-over cricket. I think everyone saw in the ICC Cricket World Cup how exciting this format can be.

"The ICC Cricket World Cup was rightly applauded as one of the greatest in history and no one who was in Mumbai will forget that remarkable evening.

"The ODI team of the year reflects the success of India with four players selected - Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, M S Dhoni and Zaheer Khan. Yuvraj was, of course, the player of the tournament and MS Dhoni, the man of the match in the final, whilst fellow finalists Sri Lanka has three players in the side."

Lloyd was joined on the panel by former Pakistan captain Zaheer Abbas, former England captain Mike Gatting, former New Zealand bowler Danny Morrison and former South African bowler Paul Adams. Statistics were available as a guide but were not necessarily the overwhelming factor in the choices made.

The ICC ODI Team of the Year was one of two teams selected by the ICC selection panel along with the Test line-up which was announced last month.

Sachin Tendulkar doubtful for second ODI

Chester-Le-Street: India are sweating on the fitness of superstar batsman Sachin Tendulkar ahead of the second One-Day International against England in Southampton on Tuesday.

Tendulkar missed the first one-dayer in Durham on Saturday with a recurrence of an old toe injury that left him struggling to jog.

The batsman will see a surgeon in Southampton on Monday to determine if he can take any further part in the series.

Rohit Sharma is definitely out of the rest of the series after having his hand fractured by the first ball he faced from Stuart Broad.

Tendulkar aggravated the injury in training on Friday and if he misses the rest of the series it would leave him stranded on 99 international hundreds after failing to get to three figures all summer.

Indian manager Shivlal Yadav said: "He is suffering from inflammation to the bone in his big toe on the right foot. In the past he had a fracture to the bone and after training he felt a little pinch."

The batsman was in visible pain as India's physio treated him on the pitch and about scans later revealed fractures.

The two injuries are the latest in a long list that wrecked India's chances in the Test series where they were beaten 4-0.

Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambir and Ishant Sharma have all been invalided out of the tour leaving MS Dhoni's resources stretched.

England have fitness worries of their own.

Graeme Swann missed the first match because of sickness but captain Alastair Cook is confident he will have his premier spinner back for the second game of the series.

Cook said: "He will be alright for Tuesday."

Dhoni also called for a resolution to the current controversy over the use of Hot Spot in the wake of Rahul Dravid dismissal.

Stuart Broad led the appeals for a caught behind, but Dravid stood his ground whilst Broad asked for the decision to be referred.

Dravid was given not out originally Hot Spot showed nothing, the ball appeared not to move but third umpire Marais Erasmus gave Dravid out on the basis that he heard a noise as the ball passed the bat's edge.

But Dhoni said: "There was nothing on Hot Spot and no deviation and the umpire gave him not out. I thought the benefit of the doubt always went to the batsman.

"I still don't know how he gave him out. There are questions that need to be asked - the benefit of the doubt should go to the batsman."

Sachin Tendulkar Vs Messi

You must be wondering what type of comparison is this considering both are different breed of players. But still when these 2 names crop up, people will still wish to listen what someone is saying about these two. Both are lion hearts taking the fight to the opposition irrespective of whoever it is and wherever it is. They strike fear into the opponent even in their own backyard. One has dominated the world for almost 22 years and left no records broken except one or two. The other has just started the period of dominance.
Sachin started of in Pakistan with a bloody nose but to be frank even the great Imran Khan said this boy will change the world of cricket. And literally, he did. The child prodigy simply changed the way cricket is viewed across the world. He became the GOD of Cricket. Leave the common man, even governments come to standstill when this Little Master is in complete control. People even have a saying "Commit your crimes when Sachin is playing because even God is busy watching him them". Such has been his dominance and foray into our lives that in India its almost impossible to imagine cricket without Sachin. Though new players have emerged, still Sachin is Sachin. On field, simply there is no one even close to him, no angers, no regrets. You sledge him and even the commentator won't stop remarking that the bowlers career is almost over. Off the field, he is the perfect gentleman you can find, no controversies, no sensational political statements, charity in the background. As Navjot Singh Sidhu said once "You can bring the PM to the courtroom in India, but you cannot point a finger at Sachin Tendulkar". He has been a class apart on the field conquering every ground there is starting from Perth on one end to the Port of Spain on the other end. People love to watch him irrespective of their nationality. Even sometimes the fielders just watch his strokes and later realize that they have to get him out. There won't be a second Sachin.

Messi started off in a similar fashion to Tendulkar. He was too short to pursue sports but determination brought him to Barca. Started off with rough clatters against Chelsea when Ronaldinho was making merry with the ball. Messi started from there gradually taking up the No 10 jersey finally. Sometimes it seems like he has stuck the ball using fevicol to his boots. He creates magic on the field never bowing down to any challenge. The more you tackle him, the more he comes back to you. Play acting is not his skill. His skill is the soccer ball with which he simply walks into the goal as if there is no one in front of him. Sometimes it resembles as if other players are mortals in front of him. But its still a long way before he can be even conferred the title GOD. But still he is breathtaking in his own aspect. He is like the baby faced assassin whom the opponents fear knowing that they can't stop him no matter what. Off the field, he lives a life far from any controversies.

Both these players have graced their respective sports with utmost respect and they have been well respected in return. They have their critics but they let their skills do the talking. They are embodiment of God's gift, hard work, brilliant execution, silent aggression and above all a never say die attitude.

Sorry Suresh Raina, Sachin is still God: Google

New Delhi: Google translation just affirmed what millions of Sachin Tendulkar fans suspected for a long time - the Little Master is God and cricketer Suresh Raina will just have to live with the disappointment.
All for a Google translate result which translates "Suresh Raina is God" in Serbian to "Sachin Tendulkar is God" in English.
After setting the cricket world on fire, Suresh Raina is now setting the Internet on fire. "Suresh Raina is God" is spreading like a wild fire on Google and Twitter trends.
Apparently, technology is in consent with the feelings of a million cricket fans across the globe who consider Sachin "the God of cricket". Yet to be discovered if it is a technology glitch or the Internet giant has deliberately made sure no one takes away Sachin's much glorified position in the world of cricket.
However, it has got nothing to do with Sachin's godliness, the translator automatically translates Suresh Raina to Sachin Tendulkar no matter what the sentence is.
Twitter too has been buzzing with tweets about the same. Abhishek Gupta writes, "So Suresh Raina is a trending topic on twitter because of Sachin paji.. See that's the power of god - he is omnipresent"
Tamraj writes, "using google translate translate "Suresh Raina is god" from English to Serbian and then back to English, and see the magic"
So, following are the steps you have to follow, to see it happen:
- Go to www.translate.Google.com
- Type: "Suresh Raina is God"
- Translate it to Serbian.
- Copy the Serbian text and translate it back to English
- The Result: "Sachin Tendulkar"

Sachin Lone Indian in ICC Test Team 2011

Dubai: Sachin Tendulkar is the only Indian cricketer to make the cut in the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Test Team of 2011 announced on Friday while the presence of five English players reaffirms the side's rise to the top of the rankings.

Indian seamer Zaheer Khan has been named the 12th man of the side chosen by a specially-appointed selection panel chaired by West Indian batting legend Clive Lloyd. The 12-man line-up was chosen along with the short-lists for the ICC Awards 2011 which are due to be held in London on September 12.
Tendulkar makes the line-up for the third year in a row - having appeared in the Team of 2009 and 2010 - while South Africans Hashim Amla and Jacques Kallis, along with Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara, and England duo of Graeme Swann and James Anderson all appear for the second year in a row.
Jonathan Trott, Alastair Cook and Stuart Broad are the other English cricketers who find a place in the playing eleven. South African speedster Dale Steyn has earned a place in the team for the fourth successive year. He was also featured in the team of 2008, 2009 and 2010. Former Sri Lanka skipper Sangakkara is named as captain of the team.
"The selection of this year's Test team was a difficult one with so many worthy candidates available to fill just 12 places. The team has a formidable line-up that bats well down the order and has bowlers with the ability and form to dismiss any opposition twice on any surface," said the chairman of the selection panel Clive Lloyd.
"While selecting the squad, the selectors didn't rely only on statistics only but took into account all other factors like the opposition, pitch conditions, match situation etc. But when you have only 12 places to fill from a big group of world-class players, there will always be a few who will miss out. In the panel's expert opinion, it has selected the best team based on performances over the past 12 months," he said.
Lloyd was joined on the panel by former South Africa spin bowler Paul Adams, former Pakistan batsman Zaheer Abbas, former New Zealand bowler-turned-commentator Danny Morrison and former England batsman Mike Gatting.
The ICC Test team of the year (in batting order):
Alastair Cook (England)
Hashim Amla (South Africa)
Jonathan Trott (England)
Sachin Tendulkar (India)
Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka - wicketkeeper/captain)
AB de Villiers (South Africa)
Jacques Kallis (South Africa)
Stuart Broad (England)
Graeme Swann (England)
Dale Steyn (South Africa)
James Anderson (England)
Zaheer Khan (India) (12th man)
